Shoot a model to get an effect of Hollywood blockbusters

At first sight, you would think it is ... an American blockbuster? Produced in Hollywood?

But it is actually a model shot indoors, that is to say, even a photography beginner can complete such a picture comparable to Hollywood blockbuster effect at home.

This time we will take a look at how to make a model look like movie style.

Lighting & Post

In natural light, this character looks just like a well-made model.

Then we can place a Lishuai 50D on the rear right side of the model, lighting from the top with a tungsten color filter.

This is to outline a harder shadow on the face of model character, simulating the effect of sunlight.

Then take out a mini tripod, and connect it to the 1/4 screw hole of Lishuai T25. Adjust the light to warm color. Place it on the right rear side of the model to simulate the sunlight on the background.

Then place a T25 on the left side too, still adjusting it to a warm color light.

Thanks to the T25's own soft lighting effect, the diffuse reflection effect is simulated here to brighten the left side of the model character.

After completing the above steps and finish shooting, the following is the post production. First, create a new curve and adjust the color to be closer to the sunlight.

Then create a new color adjustment layer and select an atmospheric LUT file.

Finally, use the ratio of 2.35:1 to recompose the picture.

In this way, a model photo with a cinematic feel is obtained.

Shooting summary

In this model shooting, in order to simulate sunlight, a 50D with integrated lighting control was used. A T25 was used for background light, which was connected with a mini tripod and adjusted to a suitable height to simulate the effect of sunlight. Another T25 was selected as auxiliary light, which was adjusted to a warm color temperature to brighten the left side of the character, simulating the diffuse reflection of the environment.
